Our grandfather, O.B. Lassiter, was born in North Carolina in 1885 and worked at home due to his father being crippled. He was an avid reader and was intrigued by everything he read about the Canadian “golden sunsets” of the “golden west”. In 1916 he packed his bags and headed north to Canada and settled in the Lethbridge area. He bought one section of land at Chin and rented the Alexander Ranch which consisted of 3840 acres. He soon acquired another six sections of raw prairie south of Chin and began breaking land.

Oscar’s 60 plow horses and 20 some odd mules were replaced in 1923 with the first diesel powered tractor and combine which O.B. brought to Canada. Word traveled fast and he was soon commissioned to break land for neighbors and the Alberta government and eventually broke over 43,000 acres of raw prairie.

O.B. married Mary Alice Archer from Barnwell and went on to raise a family of 12 children. XXX (left hip) was Oscar's brand and after Grandad passed away in 1976 at the age of 91, we wanted to keep some of his legacy so Lassiter Brothers (Stand, Barry, Robert, Kent & Darrel) made a decision to register the XXX brand for lifetime and use Triple X as our registered ranch division. Pretty cool!!

The ranch is located 15.5 miles north west of Bassano or 12 miles southeast of Hussar in the small community of Makepeace. We own 4500 acres of dryland and operate under Lassiter Brothers, Triple X Red Angus. 1200 acres is seeded to a wheatgrass and oxley cicer milkvetch mix and is watered by a series of dugouts that have been strategically placed for maximum run off. The 200 cow herd are all pastured and calved at the ranch in a closed herd. We rent around 1500 acres of cropland from a good friend and neighbor.
